Yesterday I wrote that the garden was creating nothing but leaves and chewed up stems. Well, last night I conducted a close examination (despite the heat) and found THESE:
Here is CLEARLY the start of a watermelon (about 3/8" diameter) that I am going to hover over attentively every hour on the hour until it grows up into a real watermelon.
And here is an anemic looking squash of some sort--either a yellow or green zuchini, I'd guess. I thought it was a soggy blossom until I poked it. It's pretty soft at this point, sort of like a butterfly just out of a chrysalis. And certainly not appetizing looking. But it may develop into something worth thinking about yet.
